Why hot?
Why not! Hot yoga helps the body open more fully to the yoga experience. Muscles become more open to flexibility in a heated environment. Your body burns more calories as it strives to maintain homeostasis. Your skin detoxes from the sweat and leaves you with a fabulous glow, from the inside out! Hot yoga is more than just a physical challenge; its a mental challenge as well. If you’ve been practicing yoga, the heat allows you to take your practice to the next level. If you’re brand new to yoga, this is a great place to start! The heat creates a more activated environment - creating a higher heart rate, better muscle strength, blood flow, and flexibility, and helps with mental focus, alleviating depression symptoms and fosters a better night’s sleep.
I want to try hot yoga but I am afraid I’ll pass out!
I’ve been there! I started my hot yoga journey with private hot yoga sessions back in 2015. After spending time learning the postures and how to experience the heat in a private setting with a qualified teacher, I then began to take group classes at a studio. I understand how intimidating walking into a yoga studio can be, let alone walking into a hot yoga studio! I offer private yoga sessions you can book for any style, including hot yoga, here.
What do I wear to hot yoga?
That is totally up to you, but we recommend either yoga pants designed for hot classes (moisture wicking pants), or shorts, and sports bras, with or without a tank top. For the guys, we recommend you opt for either a tank or a moisture wicking shirt, or if you’re comfortable, shirtless. Synthetic moisture wicking clothing is better than cotton for hot yoga classes.
Do I need a yoga mat?
We have yoga mats available in the studio to borrow for your first few classes, but after that, we recommend you buy your own. We sell Liforme yoga mats, and recommend those the most, for hot yoga classes.
How hot is the room?
We heat the yoga studio to 82-86 degrees. If you’ve ever taken a beach yoga class with us in July, you’ve probably done hot yoga with us already! We just move a bit faster in the studio than we do on the beach.
How do I prepare for class?
We recommend not eating for at least 2 hours before class. If you really need to eat in a shorter window than that, opt for something light, like a banana, a simple protein shake, or a piece of toast. Arrive hydrated, as you will sweat a lot. The more hydrated you are, the better experience you’ll have. Unfortunate “side effects” like feeling dizzy, or light headed, or getting a headache, are usually from dehydration, which is easily preventable. Drink water, or a hydration supplement added to your water. My current favorite is Biosteel Pink Lemonade. The time to hydrate is before class, not during. You can take small sips of water as needed during class, but taking big sips or gulping water will not make you feel good.
What if I am in the class and I feel too hot and need to leave?
You’re always welcome to either step outside of the room for a few minutes or leave the class entirely if the heat is too much for you. Please note that there are no refunds if you do not finish the class.
How many people will be in the class?
We have a small studio space that only holds around 12-16 students comfortably.
Do you offer classes other than hot yoga?
Yep! We currently offer group classes of “Everyday Yoga” on a weekly basis. This class is great for beginners or those who do not want to be in the heat. We also offer pop up classes of other types of yoga throughout the year. Be sure to check our schedule and social media for announcements for our pop up classes.
Can I book a private hot yoga?
